This past Saturday the Varsity Football team played in a very close game with Ecorse the final score was 22-21 but the varsity players will keep fighting hard leading up to their first home game this weekend.
Although the game last weekend did not end to FGR’s advantage, the Varsity team played a tough game and aren’t going to let their loss get to them. Joey Birchler, a junior player on the team said, “we were expecting to win but weren’t counting on it.” Richard was ahead 21-8 at halftime. The Ecorse Red Raiders were able to come back strong scoring two touchdowns taking the game with a final score of 22-21. The team will not allow the loss to take a big hit on them they plan to come back strong and win this weekend.
The players lose are looking forward to their game against Notre Dame Prep on Saturday. Birchler says this is one of the biggest games of the season since it will likely secure them a spot in the Prep Bowl. The game should be tough since Notre Dame will be ready to fight hard because last year Gabriel Richard beat them during their homecoming game. The players at Richard will play tough as well though for that spot in the Bowl Game. Birchler is excited for the game this weekend since they will have a chance to play in front of all of their fans. He would tell underclassmen who are interested in Varsity football that it’s a really fun sport if you are passionate about it. He described the Varsity team as “one big football family.” Come support the Varsity Football team during their first home game on Saturday Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m.!
