Lauren Fahlman, a member of the Father Gabriel Richard DanceTeam, recently won the Superior Award at this summer’s UDA Camp at Oakland University.
Fahlman has been dancing for the past 12 years at The Dance Connection, where she obtained her skill to win the Superior Award. The award is given to the dancers at UDA who receive all blue ribbons for their three dances they performed in front of the whole camp. Lauren won this award by receiving three blue ribbons and succeeding in all of her dances.
Lauren learned three dances which consisted of pom, jazz and lyrical dancing. She took all level four classes of dance; otherwise known as the highest levels available. In order to receive the award, she could make two mistakes only and had to make dance faces. They are described as big smiles, cute faces and expressions that are relevant to the choreography.
Lauren Fahlman was nervous for her three performances, because she felt she didn’t know her dances that well and was afraid she was going to mess up.Therefore, she was surprised when she was one of the 100 people to win this award.
By receiving this award, Fahlman gained confidence in her dancing and in herself. “It told me that I have some things to work on, but I can pick updances quickly,” Fahlman said.
