Notre Dame’s girls varsity tennis team won the team state tournament for the third straight year Saturday under Coach Shane Lagerman.

The varsity singles players are Maria Koval, Anne Marie McKenzie, Meghan Linehan, and Margaret Faller.   The varsity doubles partners are Christina Schuapp and Katie Pott, Sam Pallini and Katie Schick, Catherine Schuapp and Nicole Pott, and Annie Schick and Kimberly Baudhuin. The 12-member team is led to state by senior captains Koval and Katie Pott.

Notre Dame faced off against University School, who has been in the team state tournament since 2003. Notre Dame has defeated University School the past two years at the state tournament.

“We have only had one loss in the last three years, and that was to the No. 1 ranked team in Division I. So we feel good heading into state,” said Coach Lagerman on Thursday.

Coach Lagerman has brought the Tritons to state six times in his seven years coaching. “We can do it again, but it will not be easy,” he said.

The team already has two state champions and one runner-up in the individual state tournament. No. 1 doubles partners Christina Schuapp and Katie Pott took first place for doubles. Also, No. 1 singles player Maria Koval was runner-up at the state tournament last weekend.

Heading into state, the varsity team hoped to keep the winning going.

University School is a “very good team,” said Lagerman, but he is confident that the team has what it takes to be state champions once again.
