The Minnechaug football team concluded their season with a Division 1 state football championship game against Leominster at Worcester State College. With a record of 10-1, the team earned top honors sharing the AA Conference title with Longmeadow with a win on Thanksgiving Day over Central.

This win earned the team a title and a spot in the state championship. In the game against Leominster the Falcons were only behind by six at halftime but their two touchdowns in the second half didn't prove to be enough. Leominster took over and scored three times in the fourth quarter and came away with a score of 40-20. Leominster came into the game with a 10-3 record and was in the lead for the entire duration of the game. "We had a solid game against Central and we practiced hard right up until our final game. Leominster is a tough team and they were representatives of Central Mass for a reason and we met our match," said senior Jon Caruana. "We did our best but it just wasn't enough."

This was Minnechaug's first return to the state championship since a 40-16 loss to Longmeadow in 1992. Minnechaug has won Super Bowl titles in 1977, 1978, 1983 and 1984. This season was a strong one for the team as three years ago they had a record or 1-9, last year 6-4 and this fall 10-1.

The season was a special one for many and one that the athletes especially will remember. "This season was such a success because of our work ethic. We all had the same goal, to win the super bowl, and we knew that to get there we would have to earn it. So beginning in August we all just decided to put 100% in and give it the best we had," said senior Brian Rowe. "We didn't win the super bowl, but I think we should all be proud of what we did this season."

Although the team was disappointed with their lost to Leominster they don't have any regrets. "We did the best we can so I think that we can't look back on the season with any regret," said junior Bennet Harrington. "We tried our hardest and did have a great season so we have something to be proud of."
