On Sunday, a 4-year-old boy was found after shooting himself in the face. He later died from the injuries and police are trying to figure out how the boy had access to the gun and if it was registered.

     Police responded to a call around 10:30 am to the 3600 block of Fernhill Avenue in Northwest Baltimore, Maryland. The boy, Tyeshawn Townsend, was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was rushed there from Sinai Hospital, where he was in critical condition. Junior Matt Ward says, “It’s a tragedy and it’s terrible that the parents would leave something like that where kids can get it.”

     Neighbors say they heard the mother of the young child screaming, “Oh, my God! Oh my God! My baby’s dead, my baby’s dead,” Valerie Barney says she saw the mother “bent over, crying hysterically.”

     Police would not report who was in the house at the time of the incident or how the child came in contact with gun. Neighbor Anna Coats says, “It was a scary feeling, as a parent, you want to be concerned as far as guns are concerned. It shouldn’t be in the home anyway, especially with small children.”

     Police Detective Jeremy Silbert gave advice saying, “We always want to remind people to take the utmost caution if you have a gun in the house. Always keep it unloaded. Always keep it in an area that is unaccessible to children.”
