Arcade Fire, Spike Jonze team up for short film

By Molly Ploughman

Music fans across the spectrum have yet another reason to be excited for what 2010 entails for the avant-garde alternative rock band, Arcade Fire.

After a long 3 years since the band’s last studio album, Neon Bible, this multi-instrumentalist band has made plans to release their third studio album during the summer of 2010. However, little information is available. Vague murmurs of “soon” and “better” answer the many questions of when the album will be out and to how it will sound.

So when it was announced earlier this month that indie’s favorite orchestral rock group and director are casting teens for a short film, people got very excited.

This is not the band’s first attempt at making a film. During the period between studio times, the group released a puzzling documentary that incorporated footage of the making of Neon Bible with live performances.

Efforts done by Jonze, renowned film maker with musical ties, and The Arcade Fire, made famous by their ability to create bone-chilling euphoria with their music, have each been well-received. Most recently Jonze directed and wrote the hit film adaptation of the popular children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are. He also worked on the popular and bewildering films Adaptation, Being John Malkovich and Synecdoche, New York.

Arcade Fire plans to reveal content from their new album during their headline acts at Lollapalooza and the Reading and Leeds Festivals and in August 2010. Jonze is filming a feature-length 3D installment of the Jackass series. He also premiered his dramatic short film I’m Here: A Love Story in an Absolute World at the 2010 Sundance film Festival.
