A Pennsylvania woman currently faces life in prison because of actions that earned her the title, Jihad Jane.

     During June of 2008, Colleen LaRose created a YouTube account, under the username JihadJane.  She encouraged others to wage war to protect Muslims and persuaded them with thoughts of being a martyr.  LaRose also promised to marry one of the co-conspirators to gain European citizenship.

     LaRose’s vow was to “achieve it [starting a war] or die trying,” according to cnn.com.  One of LaRose’s biggest goals was to kill a Swedish cartoonist.  “I think it’s a little extreme,” said NHHS freshman, Gabe Lackey.  “The cartoonist probably shouldn’t have drawn the cartoon though.”

     The cartoonist, Lars Vilks, drew a controversy sketch of “Muslim prophet Mohammad with the body of a dog in 2007,” said cnn.com.  “She’s taking a cartoon that is not intended to be serious, and is a tad on the extreme side,” says Robert Marconi, NHHS sophomore. 
     While trying to get to Vilks, LaRose stole a passport to make the trip. She will be penalized for that along with the attempt to commit an act of terrorism.  Her punishment consists of a million dollar fine and possible life imprisonment.
