The Kettle Run volleyball team hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness game on Tuesday, October 27 against Liberty High School.

Portions of the money made at the game will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The idea was started last year, when it was suggested by a few of the players on the team. T-shirts, ribbons, and other merchandise were sold with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Everyone was encouraged to come to the game and wear something pink to the match. The game also recognized fans who currently have, or have had cancer of any kind.

Some players felt extra motivation to play well on the 27th. “I feel like we are playing for a really good cause, and we all will be super exited to play,” said junior Sam Johnson.

Coach Hermes agreed. “Every district match is important, but obviously, the girls are excited to play for this cause and to do well,” Hermes said. “It is important for fans to come to the game, because it will show how much we care as a school, and will encourage people to get more involved.”

Coach Hermes echoed this thought. “Fan support of this cause is huge. We already have many students and parents who are regular supporters.”

The players wore pink jerseys for the game instead of the regular green ones.

It is important for the volleyball program to raise awareness of cancer through this event. “As a program, we feel it is important to raise awareness for all kinds of cancers. Each of us has been affected by cancer in one form or another.”

The game against Liberty was also senior night. All seniors on the volleyball team were recognized. These seniors include: Alex Arruda, Sam Harrover, Sam Tingle, and Brook Redmon.
