Dr. Joachim Reinhuber, visiting instructor at Texas A&M Kingsville, helped VMT piano students with music enhancement, confidence, and everything in between during eighth and ninth block Thursday, April 16.
“He motivated me to become a better pianist, and the way he played was cool,” Vanessa Lopez, sophomore who also attends Cigarroa, said about performing in front of Reinhuber.
Director of Piano Studies Dr. Mary Grace Carroll appreciated his visit.
"On a regular basis, we (VMT music faculty) are fortunate to have distinguished visitors present workshops and recitals for our students. Dr. Reinhuber, with his musical enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of the mechanics of the piano, was gracious with his time and talents. I am happy that senior piano student Abraham Armendariz will begin his music studies with Dr. Reinhuber at Texas A&M-Kingsville this coming fall,” Carroll said.
Reinhuber spoke of his own beliefs in being a musician and understanding and loving the musical arts.
“I do believe that good music is vital for the survival of humanity and that bad music in the wrong hands (like fascist government of any kind) can be fatal. Music is a very strong force that works in your subconscious; it can be used for wonderful things and for very bad means. That is why music education and a wonderful school like yours are so incredibly important” he said. “Musicians young and old must realize that they are manipulating a very powerful tool and treat it with all the love and respect they can muster.”
