When I hear the word love, I think of a strong feeling between two people, a strong connection. Something inseparable, like the love between a child and their parents, or two people who feel nothing but joy with one another.

Love is not a one night stand. Love is not a week long relationship. Love is not wanting one person, but being with this person instead. The word 'love' has been so mutilated that I don't think anyone really remembers what it really means. Love means commitment and giving away a piece of yourself for a piece of someone else, opening yourself up knowing you could fall and get hurt but taking the risk because you believe they won't hurt you. THAT'S love.

I say that because I am very ashamed of the people around me. For instance; I was walking down the hallway when I heard something going on. I stood off, listening. Apparently, this girl had cheated on her boyfriend. He said he couldn't believe she would do this, etc., and that he was gProxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 ng to break up with her. She kept crying and she said, "But I love you and I need you". Really? if you love him, then why did you feel the need to cheat? If you need him, then why did you seek comfort in someone else?

There's something I can't stress enough. That person you're with now, you aren't going to last. You're in high school. Love, in high school, is nothing more than a joke. Most relationships only last about a month, if you're lucky. After high school, then what? Do you really think that once you're opened up to a whole new world of opportunities that you'll still be together?

In my eyes, love is not real. We are human, and human nature is to seek more than what we have. It isn't our fault, it's just human nature and how we operate. Is love real? Perhaps, perhaps not.

Next time you tell someone you love them, think about what you really mean when you say it.
