The Prom Committee of 2007 has been assembled and a date has been set. Kate Fetterman is committee chair and is working with ten other juniors to get everything planned and organized. Prom will be on May 12, and as everyone already knows it will be held in the school gymnasium. I spoke with Gab Benzie and Michael Weferling, members of the committee, who informed me everything is going great. "We have so many ideas and it is such a small group that everything works really well, there's no fighting. We could probably start making decorations tomorrow." Gab told me. The theme is being kept a secret by the committee and won't be revealed until the dance is much closer, but they were able to share a couple details.
They discussed how they're aware there was disappointment in the location of the dance but they feel it is much better this way. Michael says, "We get more funding this year because of the location, that gives us more room to explore bigger ideas than previous classes. Mr. Cawley donated a $35,000 floor to protect the gym's floor." This will allow the gym to be used for prom as well as other events such as graduation. The committee has decided to hire a DJ, which DJ in particular is still under discussion.
As far as the size of the gym goes, Gab and Michael agree it will work out fine. Michael says they plan to use "lots of fabric to hide the fact it's a gym and not a ballroom at the Plaza." He added, "It will be easier to maintain cool air, with more space there will be more room for air circulation and that will keep the dance from getting too hot." For the rest of the details they both say we'll have to wait and see, but they see very confident in their plans and staying on schedule, Michael said, "We're already weeks ahead of last year's committee, that has to be a good sign."
