It’s that time of year again, when transforming robots return for another epic battle against the Decepticons, Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts for his sixth year of school, and when American killing squads terrorize the Nazis during World War II. This summer’s cinematic line-up is expected to bring in enormous sums of money, but will they live up to last year’s mega hit “The Dark Knight”?
Will Ferrell’s new movie “Land of the Lost,” a remake of James L. Henderson’s 1974 television series “Land of the Lost”, will kick off the summer movie line up. June also holds the release of the new Transformers movie, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ”, which is expected to be one of the biggest movies of the summer. “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” is about the Decepticon’s return to Earth to battle against the Autobots; meanwhile the US Military has stolen Megatron's body and revived him. Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox will return, along with many others, to play their original roles. Other movies for the month of June are “The Hangover,” “Imagine That,” “Year One,” and “The Proposal”.
July will also be full of laughs and drama, with “Brüno”, another comedy from Sacha Baron Cohen the creator of “Borat” and what is said to be the most anticipated movie of the summer: “Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince.” At first, the Half-Blooded Prince was set to be released November 21 of 2008 but was moved to its new release date July 15, 2009. This change was due to Warner Bros. Pictures, who thought they made enough money in 2008 with “Iron Man” and “The Dark Knight”, thus postponing Harry to July. This movie is about Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and how he will learn about Lord Voldemort's past to help get him ready for what is to come in the near future. The Harry Potter film series will continue by dividing the last book into two parts. Other movies set to be released in the month of July are “Public Enemies,” “(500) Days of Summer,” “The Ugly Truth,” and “Funny People.”
Moviegoers can expect to see more action and horror movies in the moth of August. There will be a sequel to Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” called “H2,” as well as a fourth installment to the “Final Destination” franchise, “Final Destination: Death Trip”. There will also be a new Holocaust movie “Inglorious Basterds”. It is about a group of Jewish-American killing solders that named “The Basterds” spread fear throughout the Third Reich, scalping and brutally killing Nazis. While they are doing this they come across a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater and has become is a target for the Nazis. Other movies set to be released in August are “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” “Paper Heart,” and “Post Grad”.
