With the start of the new school year, Senior Yuliana Strochkova is among the many Murrow students who have been forced to find an alternate way to get home.

            That’s because the Manhattan-bound Q train platform at Avenue M is closed for reconstruction. The project started on September 27
^th and won’t reopen until December or January according to the MTA.

“I have to walk more and I even get driven sometimes,” said Strochkova, who normally takes the Ave M station to her home. “Now I have to take the bus more often which can get complicated because the buses can be crowded.

The face-lift is part of a federal funded $11.2 billion capital rebuilding program which will enhance and improve the tracks and subways as well as make it safer for commuters, according to the MTA. This reconstruction began with the Coney Island bound Q train service at Avenue M but has made its way to the other side of the tracks.

Murrow Senior Joshabell Salas said she agrees that these changes are for the better.

“I don’t really mind the changes too much because they are fixing up any problems that the subways might have and are preventing future accidents,” said Salas.

The service changes have been more of a problem for Ayanna Persue, however, who is also a senior at the school.

“It takes longer for me to get home,” Persue said. “It is also stressful because I already take four trains.”

The construction changes have also been a problem for senior Joi Jennette.

“It is frustrating because I want to get straight home, not hop from train to train,” said Jennette.

            Although many students have been affected, they are relieved that the Brooklyn bound service has returned.

“At least it’s not a problem getting to school anymore,” added Jennette.
