This year, East Pennsboro Area High School entered four athletes in the event, junior Jackie Downey, junior Ben Heisley, freshman Angel Barber, and sophomore Kailee Yoder. These athletes all competed in different events, including field events. Junior Jackie Downey competed both Friday and Saturday in the Javelin and Discus events. Downey has been working very hard this season at the Javelin, and her hard work has finally paid off when she qualified for the State Championships. Downey's personal record in Javelin was set at Mid-Penns, with a throw of 125 meters. "I was so surprised that I hit 125 meters at Mid-Penns, I didn't think I would even come close at Districts," states Downey. Downey hit 123 meters at the District Championships, earning her a spot at the State Championships. She is seeded 14th, a very decent seed. Downey hopes to set a new personal record at the State Championships this year!
Sophomore Kaile Yoder also participated in the District Championships on Saturday May 17th. She did very well and even made a new personal record for herself. Yoder was very nervous for Saturday's championship because of her false start at Mid-Penns. "I was afraid that I would false start again, but I didn't thankfully!" states Yoder. Yoder did not qualify for the State Championships, but she is very thankful to have made it to Districts! She believes next year may be her year to make it to states!
