A record number of students were recently approved for induction as probationary members of the National Honor Society. At a Nov. 18 ceremony a total of 24 juniors and seniors were inducted.

In past years the ceremony was held in the Little Theater, but due to the large number of students being approved, more space was needed; therefore, the ceremony was held at St. Boniface Church.

The following juniors were selected as probationary members: Meera Montesdeoca, Adriana Gibson, Melanie Lewis, Columani Stoney, Takeisha Findlay, Tyler Perez, Danica Luc, Tamara Boodie, Krystal Maldonado, Tasha Joachim, Zari Havercome, Jenny Balaguer, Valiette Guillaume, Astrid Alonzo, Emmanuela Vaught, Mildreht Esquivel, Christine Gonzalez, Ariel Benoit and Briana Cintron. The following seniors were also approved: Schae Lewis, Sascha Lewis, Marlene Tejada, Cristina Perez and Louise Comberland.

These girls have done more than just make the honor roll at school. They have displayed an outstanding performance in areas such as scholarship, service, leadership, and character. In order to be a part of the National Honor Society, students must follow such criteria.

During the ceremony, candles of scholarship, service, leadership and character were lit as the probationary members who were inducted last year explained what the candles represented.

Due to the large amount of students, the placement of the NHS collar was divided into two sections. As S. Joan placed the collars on the new members they wore proud smiles on their faces.

Ms. Martinez, a St. Joseph alumnae as well as the current English teacher, spoke at the ceremony. She spoke to the girls and their families about school and what hard work she put forward in order to get where she is now as a successful teacher. She also gave words of encouragement and inspiration to the girls.

Zari Havercome, an 11th grade inductee, said she has made sure to do well and keep her grades up. Zari mentioned that she is very excited to be a part of such an elite organization. But she was not the only one excited; her parents were also enthusiastic and extremely proud of her accomplishment. "She does it all by herself, we don’t have to push her," said Zari’s mother. Her father said her allowance will now increase.

Senior Cristina Perez was also excited. "I am very happy and this is an extreme accomplishment for me," she said.

The new inductees join the following senior probationary members, who were inducted last year: Daniella DeJesus, Jailene Ruiz, Kristeen Saint Laurent, Elena Cruz, Bociana Plaisimond, Shyan Lovell and Adriana Munoz. At the end of the third marking period a final evaluation will be held which will determine if the senior probationary members will be permanently inducted at the graduation ceremony in June.

Shyan Lovell feels that the National Honor Society is a reward for all her hard work during her years at SJHS. She offers advice to students striving to become a part of the National Honor Society. "You must have good punctuality, be assertive and do your work," she said.

Im really proud of my classmates and myself for making National Honor Society because they worked really hard to where they are today. Its amazing how it is obvious that more and more girls are stepping their game up and achieving their goalswhen it comes to school. This is a great way to show their parents that their hardwork isn't in vain and that their daughter is taking each opportunity they have to overcome themselves and prove to themselves that they can do it. We need to remind ourselves how important education is in our lives and future so we can't throw this opportunity away. Keep up the good work girls! Congrats :)

I AM GLAD FOR THE STUDENTS THAT WERE ABLE TO ACHIEVE ADMISSION TO THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY. IT TAKES HARD WORK AND DEDICATION TO ACHIEVE SUCH GOAL. ENTERING NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY, IM MY OPINION, IS A REWARD FOR SOMEONE'S HARDWORK. I HOPE THAT THE GIRLS THAT ARE IN NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY SEE THIS ACHIEVEMENT AS LIFE-TIME EXPERIENCES. I HOPE THAT THE AMOUNT OF GIRLS THAT ENTER THE SOCIETY NEXT YEAR WILL INCREASE.

I think that the juniors have made great progress scince our freshman year. An example would be all of the juniors being inducted into the national honor society. These girls have worked hard and did all they had to do in order to get this honor. I think this shows an example to all of ud students at sjhs to push on so that we can also accomplish this great achivement. I think we should all strive for this oppertunity and work hard for it.

I think this article was good because so many girls got to be part of the National Honor Society. It's great to see that there are girls who are working hard to succeed. I feel that it's great that so many girls in my junior class were inducted to be part of the National Honor Society. They work really hard so they deserve to be part of that organization. It makes me feel proud to be part of a class that not only has people who are smart but nice too.

Being a National Honor Society member is a honor. There is a great responsibility that comes with this title and I know we won't let the school down. I was very happy and excited when I was inducted. I hope the the large turn out of students encourage other students to try hard to also be inducted. Helping one another is one thing I know we as students can do.

Congratulation to my fellow national honor society members. I was one of the 24 new members who were recently inducted. i feel proud because we are setting the example for the underclassmen and we show character. i feel that more people will be inducted because they are taking up the example we are setting.

Thats Terrific! So Far In My Freshman Year, I Have Noticed The Excellent Characters Of The Juniors and Seniors and That Changes Everything, To See Older Kids In School Being A Role Model To Let Us Do The Same When We Reach Where They Are Today. Yes I Knew Zari Was Succeeding, We Have Grown A Helping Relationship, through personal situations and education! GOOD JOB ZARI !!!
