(June 8, 2012)--2011. October. Debut. Rain. In ‘N’ Out. Cotton candy. Carnival games. Cycling. What's the first thing that comes to mind? It should be Clark's first annual Clarktoberfest, of course. For junior class president Sipan Ghazaryan, it was an idyllic event since he took part in planning and executing the event.

As for the students, not only did they have the opportunity to eat a nice lunch and spend time with friends, but they also felt some school spirit as they roamed around the school during the event. For Eric Guerrero, Clarktoberfest was a “cool” experience. “I had never attended a well-thought-out and entertaining event during my years as a student here at Clark,” said Guerrero. “It’s definitely something I’ll remember.”

On the other hand, ASB officers were somewhat shocked because of the weather during the event. Ghazaryan really didn’t view the pouring rain as an interference to the event’s progression. “Considering that it rained, I think it went well,” said Ghazaryan. Lack of enough prizes presented difficulties; however, Ghazaryan viewed that as a lesson learned. “We probably could've bought more prizes to make it go better,” said Ghazaryan. “We ended up running out faster than we had planned.”

As Guerrero enjoyed an In ‘N’ Out meal with his friends near the Panther Pit, others played carnival-themed games in the auditeria. However, the students were able to enjoy more things than just an In ‘N’ Out lunch and games. Outside the auditeria, there were popcorn and cotton candy machines, and the students uncontrollably spun cotton candy on sticks.

Guerrero said that he had some cotton candy; however, he didn’t play the games. “I enjoyed an awesome lunch with my friends,” Guerrero said. “Then, I got some cotton candy and just hung out with my friends.”

Not only the Clarktoberfest make its debut at Clark, but there was also something very special that made its debut during the event: Clark’s very own Andy the Panther mascot. According to Ghazaryan, Andy the Panther is approachable and friendly to everyone. “He's there to raise everyone's spirit and give a few laughs to students,” said Ghazaryan.

Guerrero said that he wasn’t necessarily excited about the panther mascot; however, he was completely for it and thought that it was definitely “money well-spent.”

For Ghazaryan, Clarktoberfest’s debut was meaningful, and he felt that the ASB officers’ and his hard work paid off. He was happy everyone enjoyed each and every minute of the event.
