(February 10, 2000) -- Robert Bienfield heads up the list of invited guest speakers who will be participating in Clark’s popular “Distinguished Speaker Series” this semester.  Beinfield will be discussing the new Honda electric cars. A car will be on display for students to view.
Other speakers lined up for this month include Craig Rogers and Rev. Darel McGowen.

Speeches are delivered during tutorial in room 1325, and are usually held Fridays.  They are open for anybody who wishes to attend.

Clark teacher John Laue is in charge of the distinguished speaker series and feels that this series had been a great success.  Laue explained, “During the first semester we were able to bring in a variety of people with different interests, and this semester, we are going to focus on bringing in speakers who talk about careers that students might be interested in.” Laue said he is very pleased with the interest students have shown toward the speakers.

A few of the guest speakers have talked about career opportunities and problems occurring in our society today. Also, some speakers discussed technology and sciences.

“I learned that our society is living in a competitive world, and it’s not based on what goes around, but who wins,” stated junior Amy Lee, after attending a speech by Vincent Valdivia.  She was shocked to learn how much the media impacted lives and how they used information only for the basis of attracting their viewers.

One of the most popular speakers was Ida Hart. Hart, whose race is both Korean and African-American, talked about how hard life was for her growing up and how she never felt accepted into either culture. She spent a lot of her life trying to discover who she was, and striving to feel accepted. Students who heard Hart speak said this story made them feel grateful that they did not have to go through the struggles and sufferings Hart had gone through in her past.

During the remainder of the semester, many representatives from Intel and Compaq will deliver speeches.  These reps will discuss career opportunities in high-tech companies.
