Thank you Regina Varsh for your excellent article regarding student permits in our school district. I have had two students check out of my class in tears, as they were not permitted to finish out the school year. But students should be aware of the need to be upfront and honest with their place of residence.

Some students have been denied a permit because they have been falsifying records as to where they live. This is lying or cheating and when they district finds out, they are not sympathetic with these students.  However, if a student has been honest from he very first, alerts the district they are moving, applies for a late permit in the school year, the permit should be granted.  I agree with Regina that teachers, environment, and class structure are not the same at all high schools.

We are not being fair to ask a student to change their academic environment with less than six weeks of school.  We should support the students who have to leave our school, by allowing them to finish the school year.  As a result we should fulfill our goal of giving each student a solid educational foundation on which to stand as they move on in life.
