Not your average ninja: Andre Mota, mastered in taekwondo
Advertising
It takes skill to know how to roll with the punches- something Andre Mota has truly mastered in taekwondo and defined at a whole new level- the Junior Olympics.

The sophomore trains daily at Robinson’s Taekwondo with coaches Mr. Clinton Robinson and Mr. Berry Roseborough. Years of serious dedication and discipline have taken him to elite competitions.

Mota began his legendary taekwondo career at an early age. In 2001, during his first appearance in the Junior Olympics, he earned a silver medal in sparring. Mota continued to compete in the Junior Olympics in sparring in 02, 04, and 05 where he was presented bronze, gold, and silver medals.

Sparring wasn’t the only form of competition Mota mastered. In 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007, he participated in forms. In forms, moves are demonstrated against an imaginary enemy. In sparring, two opponents engage in actual combat. Mota’s exceptionally high ranking earned him triple gold and one silver in the games.

Twice in 2008, he was titled the Jr. Bantam. In addition, he received another gold medal, and joined the U.S. Junior National Team all within one year.

Taekwondo runs in his family. His older brother, Alex, is a 2005 National Champion and his little sister, Michelle, is a three-time Junior Olympic Champion.

When Mota’s not training, he enjoys drawing. He hopes to continue his passion of taekwondo for as long as he can.
