Mexican culture week week at Rocklin High: Celebrating Mexican sports, food, dance, and art
Advertising
Every year Rocklin High School celebrates a different culture to honor others traditions and ways of life. This year Rocklin decided to celebrate Mexican Culture Week. Throughout the week of 4/28-5/2 many different activities took place to let students experience the Mexican culture. On Monday, Mexican inspired art was on display and a scavenger hunt took place. A salsa dance workshop was held by Mr. Grace on Tuesday. On Wednesday, a three on three futbol(soccer) tournament began in the amphitheater. At lunch on Thursday, there was a variety of Mexican food samples to try out, and on Friday there was a crafts and games workshop.

One of the most popular events of the week was the three on three futbol tournament. The event was only planned for Wednesday, but carried over onto Thursday after so many teams signed up. The winners of the tournament each won a $10 gift card to Robeks.

“I almost got hit in the face with a soccer ball, but it was still very entertaining to watch futbol. Great culture week!” said Hailey Mendoza.

Another popular event was the Mexican food samples. Students waited in the long line in order to receive their samples.

“They should have brought Chipotle for the Mexican food. That’s all I’m saying.” said Chad Wszolek.

Students in some Spanish classes were able to receive extra credit by attending the events that took place.

“It was hard to get extra credit because there was so many people participating that it was hard to take part in the events,” said Shaina Campbell.

Mexican Culture Week was a great success in celebrating the differences from our culture to the Mexican culture.

“I liked how multiple aspects of the culture were represented, from music, to food, to dance, to art.” said Spanish teacher Mrs. Cuellar.
