Monday morning, the Writers Guild of America officially went on strike. Numerous negotiations with the corporate owned television networks failed to produce satisfactory results for the writers, who are not being financially compensated for DVD sales and streaming internet videos.

The immediate effects were felt by late night shows, such as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which immediately ceased production. Originally, critics predicted the effect on series wouldn’t be felt for at least two months, but devastating news arrived Wednesday.

The Office has only two episodes left.

This distressing news has left several Rocklin High Students in a state of denial.

“It’s a lie!” “That’s not true!” “I am going to Scranton!” said seniors in Mark Hardy’s first period AP Econ class.

Unlike other series, The Office chose not to stockpile episodes to prepare for the anticipated writer’s strike, which if history repeats itself, could last five and a half months.

In addition, the show’s star, Steve Carell, who plays boss Michael Scott, refused to cross picket lines Monday, as did writers Paul Lieberstein, BJ Novak, and Mindy Kaling, or as most know them, Toby, Ryan and Kelly.

One student believes the cancellation has come from a higher power. “It’s the government, they want us to pay more attention on the elections happening next year.” said senior James Watkins.

What are Office Fans to do on Thursday nights?

“I will start watching Grey’s Anatomy,” said senior Tyler Salata.

Unfortunately, that plan will only work temporarily. The entire main cast of Grey’s Anatomy joined their writers on the picket lines Wednesday, and there will only be five episodes airing until the strike ends.
