Alumna Carissa Weber has been coloring and drawing ever since she can remember. A value study in pencil of green olives was chosen from her portfolio to be featured on the Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art poster, used to promote the program.
“When I found out that my art was selected for the AP poster, I was excited and proud but definitely very surprised,” Weber said.
Her drawing is one of fifteen selected art pieces from 22,000 AP student works of art. Each year, portfolios of about 25 pieces of art are created and sent to the College Board for evaluation by rigorous national standards.
After Weber’s work was selected, the College Board AP program gave Weber and AP Studio Art teacher Deb Smith an all-expense- paid trip to Nashville, Tennessee, where they attended the 2004 AP Studio Art Reception.
The reception was held at First Center For Visual Arts and gave students, parents, and teachers a chance to see the various works and to talk to the featured artists.
“I really enjoyed the trip to Nashville. It was really fun to meet all the other artists who were selected as well,” Weber said.
