To many people soccer is just another sport at San Benito High School, but to those on the team it is a way of life. According to Senior Captain Anissa Stanton, playing soccer builds character, teaches commitment, and offers a lot of girls a reason to look forward to something.

“It is hard to work hard every day but we have to in order to be ready for anything,” Stanton says.

            The varsity team ended up finishing the year off with a 7-2-2 record in league play and a 10-5-3 record over all. Junior Captain Tori Perez hoped to make it to playoffs but the varsity team this year wasn’t able to pull it off.

“Hopefully next year we will do better,” Perez said.

Perez feels that the team this year has a lot of talent but yet is still very young so they have a lot of room for improvement.

“It’s a fun team and for the most part we all get along,” Perez says.

            The varsity team this year has improved a lot according to a lot of the girls on the team. The freshman are working hard this year and having a really good experience working with the older girls as mentors. Perez and Stanton both agree that they will have to continue to push everyone and work hard in order to keep doing well throughout the season.

            At the end of the season three varsity players received individual honors. Senior Marissa Adame received All Tri-County Athletic League selection, Mikayla Irvin received All Tri-County Athletic League selection and was named Sophomore of the year, and last but not least Tori Perez also received All Tri-County Athletic League selection and was named Junior of the year. Multiple other players received second team and honorable mentions as well.
