Dating itself can be intimidating. You never know what you’re getting into.  A blind date can be even more terrifying. Imagine being set up with someone you’ve never even met or talked to at least once. If you’re lucky, you could end up with your soul mate. If you’re not lucky, it could end up a total disaster.

On a regular date, usually you’ve already met the person and the person is someone you feel you’re attracted to; while on a blind date you have no idea what the person is like. You may be set up with one of your friend’s friends who you know nothing about. Sure, they might have described the person to you, but you don’t really know anything about them. They may seem like the perfect match for you, but until you actually meet them you don’t know for sure.

Blind dates could go wrong for several reasons. First, many people have high expectations and are let down when those expectations aren’t met or they have low expectations about the person. Don’t expect it to go perfectly. Instead, be open minded, don’t have any expectations and don’t be quick to judge. Dating can be nerve wracking, so if you get nervous easily, try group dates. It makes the date less pressure-packed.

“Going with a group of friends lets you be more comfortable. It’s easier to be yourself without having to worry about making a fool out of yourself,” sophomore Mikayla Irvin, said about blind dating in a group.

Some people wouldn’t even think about going on a blind date.

Freshman Robbie Kelly’s opinion on blind dating is that, “It’s kind of desperate. However, in a way they can be pretty funny. Personally, I wouldn’t go on one myself, but I would definitely set up someone.”

Sophomore Bianca Jacquez feels blind dating is a great way to get to know someone because when you don’t know the person you don’t have to expect anything about them.

Sophomore Elida Medina said she thinks blind dating is “creepy and makes people feel uncomfortable” because they don’t know each other so it gets awkward.

Blind dating can be a lot of things. It can be scary, creepy and awkward if it’s with the wrong person. However, if you and your date “click,” it can be an exciting experience.
