Roseville High School social science teacher Jim Bennett shaved his head and donated his hair to the St. Baldricks Foundation last Saturday at the Galleria Mall. The St. Baldricks Foundation is an organization that is dedicated to help the cause of childhood cancer.

There was over 200 people shaving their heads on Saturday and the event raised over $67,000.

Bennett wants to help with the fight against cancer and raise money to contribute to the cure for it. Bennett found out about the St. Baldricks event when a few friends of his participated a couple of years ago.

In addition to donating his hair, Bennett had his students and TAs going around to classes collecting donations for the cause.

“My goal was $500 and I raised a little over $300,” said Bennett.

Bennett has helped several charities before, like participating in walks and Runs for the Cure, but this is his first time doing anything like this.

“Everyone has been affected by cancer,” said Bennett. “It is a terrible reality of our generation. It has reached too many people in my life.”

Bennet hopes to get the RHS staff to put a team together next year so there can be more donations and more supports for St. Baldricks.
