The videogame tournament has returned to Roseville High School. It will be held today after school from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in science teacher C.J. Addington’s classroom, room 901.

The tournament is set up as a double elimination round, meaning that if an opponent loses twice, they are out. They will be playing competitive rounds of the newly released game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Lindsey Parker, student government teacher, assigned committees to be in charge of the game tournament and spread the word on the event.

“The tournament is a good way to reach out to a different demographic - The ‘Gamers,’” said Parker.

Among the students in charge of committees was senior Zach House, sophomore Baillie Jensen and freshman Carson Miller.

“It was really fun setting up because everyone in the committee loves Call of Duty,” said Miller. “It’s a great game.”

Committee leaders helped advertise the tournament with posters and focused a lot of their attention on Addington’s classroom. Addington is also advisor of the RHS Gamers Club and therefore decided that volunteering to take part in the videogame tournament would be something he’d enjoy.

“The tournament is fun,” said Addington. “There’s a certain group of students at school that don’t appeal to the ‘Jock’ stuff, this helps that group feel included.”

Compared to the number of students who participated last year, the amount has nearly doubled and students look forward to more participation every year.

Winner of the tournament will receive a free game.
