Over the summer, Lindsey Parker accepted a position as Roseville High School’s student activities advisor for the 2010-2011 school year. Parker, who has taught at RHS for three years, was previously an English and AVID teacher but is now the student government teacher and the coaches the girls junior varsity water polo and softball teams.

“I am a Roseville High School alumna and I really love this school,” said Parker. “I think Grove did a great job, and I want to carry on the legacy.”

Former student government advisor Ron Grove was removed from the position on June 1, 2010 after Roseville Joint Union High School District board members voted 4-0 to remove him from the position.

“I think that the transition between teachers itself went very smoothly,” said senior and student body president Paige Teixeira.

According to Teixeira and student body vice president Jacob Priley, the main challenge with student government this year is adjusting to having two classes over one.

“I think this year has been amazing so far; the transition has gone stellar,” said Priley. “The challenge is the two classes. It’s tough, but I feel we are doing a great job.”

Parker also feels that things are going well, but did note that she too is getting used to doing things differently.

“For me the transition was weird because there is no set curriculum for teaching this class,” said Parker. “I am more like a supervisor than a teacher.”

Parker has no training or prior experience with being an activities director and student government teacher, but said that she is open to opinions and is listening to those with experience.

“Where Parker lacks in experience, she makes up in creativity, organization, and an amazing attitude,” said Priley.

According to Parker, Grove has been very helpful with guiding her through the learning process, but she is focusing on making the class her own.

“She is doing an awesome job for getting this role on such a short notice,” said Texiera. “I’m sure that as the year goes on we will only grow and get better as a class; I also know Grove will always be there for me, to help with any tough decisions I need to make concerning the school.”

Parker said students, teachers, and administrators have been very supportive as they know she stepped into a stressful role.

“She is doing a fantastic job, and I fully support her,” said Grove.
