Roseville High School’s 200 building is going to be remodeled to incorporate the fashion and merchandise classes along with the culinary classes. According to culinary instructor Muriel Bergman, the new building is expected to be finished by fall of next year.

“[We] have had a say in all of the plans for the building remodel,” said fellow culinary arts instructor Jamie Jackson. “Our plans include state of the art industry standard facilities that have been modeled after our supporting post-secondary education programs such as FIDM, The Art Institute, and The Culinary Institute of America.”

According to Jackson, teachers who are involved in the remodel have been meeting monthly with architects and the district facilities team to develop the remodeling plans since last spring.

“The 200 building was chosen to be remodeled because Mrs. Kringel and myself both wrote a Career Technical Education (CTE) state funded grant to remodel the building,” said Jackson. “Both of us had our grants approved and the district is supporting the remodel by providing matching funding.”

According to Bergman, the building will look entirely different after its completion; there will no longer be a hallway and only external exits. After the remodel is completed, there will be three rooms. In addition, throughout the construction, the cooking classes will remain in the building.

“The new setup will greatly benefit the Culinary Arts Program because we will no longer have a home style kitchen,” said Bergman. “It’s going to look much more commercial, making it much easier for us to teach career skills for the field.”

The Fashion Design and Merchandise Program will move into the 200 building after the reconstruction is completed. Kringel’s portable will no longer be needed. However, no other portable classes will be moving into the building.

“I think having a bigger facility will be good as it will allow us to have a bigger work area,” said junior fashion student Lexi Christiansen. “We are a little tight in the portable right now and having a bigger room will allow us to have more machines and thus get more work done.”

According to Jackson, the remodeling will positively affect the Culinary Arts Program because it has enrolled huge numbers for the last six years and its growth will finally be supported with a facility that meets student’s needs.

“Personally, I think the building remodel will greatly benefit RHS,” said Jackson. “The benefit of having both the Culinary and Fashion Programs together in the same building will be the display to students, faculty, parents and the community that we are a strong and collaborative CTE school. Our building will showcase our extremely talented, creative and hard-working students.”
