Roseville High School’s administration welcomes a new member to the staff this year. Sandeep Pannu, the part-time intervention counselor, assists students who lack credits to graduate as well as helping those students who require more attention.

“Since the case load is small, the students get more weekly access to come to me when they need it,” said Pannu.

He is also here for other responsibilities.

“Credits are only a small portion of what I help with,” said Pannu. “I am here for social and emotional support as well.”

When Pannu is not at RHS, he spends his time helping as a counselor at Woodcreek High School.

In addition, he also works for Summer Bridge, a program designed to help incoming ninth grade students get on the right track for the next four years of their high school career. The freshmen who were selected for this program were continuously truant during eighth grade; received poor grades, and were constantly in trouble. His job was to oversee everyone and make sure they were on task and doing what they needed to be doing.

This year’s Summer Bridge program had 56 students who were selected for the course. Along with getting them on the right track to succeed, this program is designed to build a strong and personal relationship between the students and their counselors. Although this program is for incoming freshmen only, Pannu is available for students at any grade level.

“It is helpful having Mr. Pannu on campus this year because he is helping us get [the] credits we need to graduate,” said senior Martin Martinez.

Pannu hopes that all of the students in the program succeed.

“I want the Summer Bridge students to pass all of their classes,” said Pannu.

He also wants to reduce the number of students who do not graduate due to the CASHEE test and credit shortages.

“This year we will be using an online program that is designed to help students pass the CASHEE test,” said Pannu.
