X-Men Origins: Wolverine was directed by Gavin Hood and written by David Benioff and Skip Woods.  Before you read any further, just know that you must go see this movie.

Although the movie didn’t follow the storyline of the comic, it was still really good. It explained everything from the other X-Men movies that had to do with Wolverine.

The story revolves around Wolverine, who is played by Hugh Jackman, and Wolverine’s brother, Sabretooth, played by Live Schreiber.

Origins opens with the two as little kids, Wolverine being sick. They run away from home and join the army, experiencing every war possible. Later, you find them in an airplane with other mutants, one of them being Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds.

I was struck dumb as to why Reynolds played the villain, but remembering his previous work in the darker Amityville Horror, held a few expectations of the actor playing a darker role.

All the actors did a great job playing their characters, which included Gambit, Agent Zero, John Wraith, Bolt, the Blob, and many other characters.  People actually cheered in the theatre when Gambit, played by Remy Leabeau, appeared on screen.

The cinematography was great, making you sit on the edge of your seat and munch on each piece of popcorn harder than the last. It helped make the movie a bit more intense and even make the audience a bit squeamish during a certain sequence with Wolverine’s skeleton being reinforced with adamantium.

The action was just purely awesome and the characters were great. The movie was believable, but Reynolds was a little out of place in the beginning as he played a kick butt, sort of comic relief character who was just too powerful for his own good. When he played the ultimate villain, however, he did a great job.

The movie did dig into emotions a little with some innocents being killed, but it was one of those, “man, that’s just messed up” moments.

It was hard to really pay attention to any music being played with so much going on the screen, but I could personally care less.

The script was strong and carried on with its storyline with the ending being a little confusing, but not disappointing.

With all the horrible Hollywood movies playing, this isn’t a movie people should miss, not to mention the X-Men fans. In a time with terrible movie ideas and nothing to do on a Friday night, go kidnap your friends and go see this movie.
