This year brought another battle for the girls track team at their WIAA Division 1  regional meet on May 21st. This year many girls track athletes qualified for the regional meet. The majority of them have been to this meet before and have been waiting since last year to do it all over again, but for others it was their first time.

Starting the meet off was the girls 4x800m relay team consisting of Sarah Mauel, Gabrielle Pepin, Lindsay Vandermause, and Brooke Jameson as they placed 3rd. Sarah Mauel said, “I couldn't ask for better teammates than Brooke, Lindsay, and G! We have really good chemistry because we're friends outside of track as well. I think we can go really far with our 4x800 relay, and I can't wait to see what happens at sectionals and hopefully state! I'll miss them all so much next year.” The next relay was the 4x200 relay and the domination continued for the girls as their team relay consisting of Erica Kleist, Lexi Coates, Ali Monfre, and Jenna Long placed 2nd and added more points for the Pirates. Following that relay was the 4x100m consisting of Erica Kleist, Lexi Coates, Karsen Daus, and Jenna Long as they placed 3rd keeping the points adding up for the Pirates. Lastly the final relay was their 4x400 with a team made up of Erica Kleist, Jen Anderson, Ali Monfre, and Brooke Jameson placing 2nd.

Moving to the individual events in the short distance racing was Freshman Jenna Long, who had a tremendous race and received another first for the Pirates in the 200m dash. Teammate Lexi Coates placed 7th as they both received more points for the girls. In moving to the 800m run, Brooke Jameson placed an outstanding 2nd place as the girls point total kept climbing. A couple of first places didn’t stop them when moving to the 3200m run as Sarah Mauel also placed first with teammate Gabrielle Pepin not too far off placing 3rd. Moving to the hurdles was Jen Anderson who was coming off a very successful FRCC meet as she broke the girls conference record, and still could not be stopped as she scored yet another 1st in the 300m hurdles and scored more points for the Pirates. Then Jen Anderson was back at it in the 100m hurdles, and she did  it again placing first once again with teammate Claire Jordan right behind her as she placed 2nd. With the girls’ success in the hurdles Jen Anderson commented on her performance and what she looks forward to this next meet: “At state my goal is just to run my run and hopefully make it to finals. I’m looking forward to having fun with my teammates and hopefully doing well.” The next set of events was the field events. Starting off was Becca Slick with the long jump as she placed 3rd and teammate Lexi Coates right behind her placing 4th. Then there was pole vault as Mackenzie Nuthals, who placed 2nd followed up by Lizzy Markiewicz as she did a marvelous triple jump getting another 1st for the Pirates. These last two girls and the rest of the team captured the WIAA Division 1 regional beating out Preble by 4 and a half points.

Lastly for the girls they have one meet left that many have been looking forward to. The team consisting of Karsen Daus, Ali Monfre, Jenna Long, and Lexy Coats have qualified for state in the 4x200m relay. The next group that qualified is Jen Anderson, Ali Monfre, Brooke Jameson, and Erica Kleist are going for their 4x400m relay. The final relay is the 4x800 with Sarah Mauel, Gabrielle Pepin, Lindsay Vandermause, and Brooke Jameson.
