Zippin' Pippin

Zippin’ Pippin. When one first sees those two words, thoughts might range from wondering what it is to thinking, what does that even mean. Well first off, the Zippin’ Pippin is the brand new roller coaster that opened at Bay Beach Amusement Park on May 21st. According to bloggers on ZippinPippin.org, they were excited to ride the classic $3.5 million wooden roller coaster.

The word “pippin” originally means seed, but in the 1920’s people used the word to mean something greatly admired, such as a car or a pretty girl. John Miller, who designed the original Zippin’ Pippin, called most of his roller coasters “pippin.” The Zippin’ Pippin is also Elvis Presley’s favorite roller coaster. City officials are even thinking of having Elvis impersonators milling around the coaster to entertain the lines of waiting people.

Some are worried that the addition of this new roller coaster will attract the wrong crowds to the park. Bay Beach has served families with young kids since it opened back in the early 1900’s. So having the new roller coaster might draw in the older crowd, causing Bay Beach to feel the need to hire more security to keep everyone safe.

It’s almost summertime, which means plenty of free time to head on down to Bay Beach to ride the brand new roller coaster. Who knows, you might even get to catch a ride on the Zippin’ Pippin with Elvis.
