Badminton or “The Sport of Kings” as Mr. Leland insists it’s called in some places, is one of the newest clubs to be spotted through the telescope of Bay Port.  The numbers of participants in the club are unclear with thirty people signing up but around an additional twenty finding their way to the meetings.  Due to its inviting and free nature people are allowed to walk or sit in for their games, making it a very light hearted engagement.  It is primarily free of commitment, and anyone is welcome to participate, however due to the limited number of courts and equipment only a select number of games can be going on at any one time.

The structure of the club is incredible informal, and despite badminton being a sport, the club is intramural and completely on campus.  In the words of Mr. Leland, “We just hold informal games, or we just play games, different kinds of games.”  The goal of fun through play, and an appreciation for the game is present.  Though it would be possible for Bay Port’s Badminton club to look into to joining some sort of  leagues for regional schools, they have not yet expressed interest in something of that rigid nature.

As an inviting club, it gives a free way to spend a Wednesday night, between 6:30 to 8:30pm with fun and little bit of exercise among the students of Bay Port.  However no matter how fun the goings on are, Mr. Leland says, “At the end of the night my body hurts.”
