The PV dance class has taken a softer approach to their spring performance.
“The main focus of our production is to do a poetry theme. Some of the pieces are a bit tricky,” said junior Albeina Kwamakazoik.
The dance class has been working on eleven pieces total of group and solo choreography to honor Anna Zamudio, who passed away this year.
“The poetry theme has never been used before, but we specifically wanted to honor Anna,” said Kwamakazoik.
The dances include a lot more variety than in previous years.
“This year it’s especially fun because we are including cultural dances,” said Kwamakazoik.
Everybody in the group performance gets the chance to have a solo performance to a favorite song.
“We are performing the top chart songs so that people are familiar with the material,” said Kwamakazoik.
In addition to the endless work put into their solo performances, the class has group numbers to focus on as well.
“The hardest thing about the group numbers is mastering the props included in the dance,” says freshman Ashley Reed. The dancers have involved chairs, poles, and floor work into the show.
“Most of the group pieces will be to lyrical ballet music to give the proper mood to the choreography,” said Reed.
The class works constantly to make this performance effective and to strike the desired chord with audiences.
“The class has a lot of talent so don’t miss the production!” said Kwamakazoik.
The class will be holding their performance on May 28.
