The Sabinal Yellowjacket Homecoming game was very exciting. Defeating our rivals, the D’Hanis Cowboys, with a score of 21-14 was the best part of the homecoming weekend that included: a pep rally, a parade, an ex’s dance, and a football game, where it was jam packed with Yellowjacket fever!
Many junior and senior ladies petitioned to be on the 2006-2007 Homecoming Court. However, only five had the privilege to walk onto the football field guided by their escorts. Wearing beautiful evening gowns, this court of royalty caught the attention of everyone.
These five lucky ladies were: Nicole Lopez, Lindsey Horton, Christina Tristan, Michelle Walton, seniors; and junior, Teresa Alejandro. The Ladies-In-Waiting were Katie Bales, sophomore, and Chrystan Page, freshman.
“When I heard that I was one of the Ladies-In-Waiting, I was both shocked and happy. It was a wonderful experience! The part of standing in front of hundreds of people was just amazing. Also having the opportunity of walking along with the five queen candidates was a privilege that I would not trade for anything,” Katie Bales, sophomore, said.
Friday night came faster than anyone expected. With the week of Homecoming themes and excitement, it was finally time to find out who the newest member of the Homecoming Queen Hall of Fame would be.
As the night went on against Sabinal’s biggest rival, the anticipation of the game, and the court rose to a higher degree. Families, classmates, and friends of the Homecoming Court watched as the Jacket band took
the field to present the lovely ladies. Nicole Lopez was escorted by #74 Arnulfo Guzman, Lindsey Horton was escorted by #20 Dalton Haughey, Michelle Walton was escorted by #23 Will Smith, Christina Tristan was escorted by #14 Josh Contreras, and Teresa Alejandro was escorted by #1 Stevie Rodriguez.
The sound of Latin Lady played throughout the stadium and the cool October air blew against the beautiful candidates and their escorts. They waited anxiously to walk onto the field of truth, such an experience and feeling that most girls dream of during their high school years...the chance to be the Homecoming Queen.
When the candidates were paused on the field, the anticipation had reached its explosive degree. The duchesses were announced, Lindsey Horton, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Horton; Christina Tristan, daughter of Guadalupe and Estella Tristan; Michelle Walton daughter of Cathy & Ernest Walton. It was now down to Nicole and Teresa. Who would take home the crown? Who would make the Homecoming Queen Hall of Fame? After a long pause it was announced, Nicole Lopez, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Raul Lopez was crowned Princess. “And the 2006-2007 Homecoming Queen is Teresa Alejandro, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ernesto Alejandro,” came over the stadium microphone.
“I was shocked, happy, and thrilled when they announced my name as Homecoming Queen. Being Homecoming Queen is a really great feeling, especially when you are a junior. It was awesome,” Teresa Alejandro, Homecoming Queen, said.
Congratulations to Teresa for being inducted into the Sabinal High School Homecoming Court Hall of Fame! Also many congratulations to Nicole, as the Homecoming Princess, and to Lindsey, Christina, and Michelle, as the Homecoming Duchesses.
“The night was full of surprises. Our triumph against D’hanis was awesome and Teresa as queen just topped my weekend. I was full of joy and happiness when I heard that Teresa had gotten Homecoming Queen. She is a wonderful friend and person, and she truly deserved to win that spotlight. I was touched when Teresa hugged her mom, it was one of those Kodak moments,” Barbara Arteaga, junior, said.
The night ended with a victorious football game and a happy queen and family.
“First of all she is my niece and seeing her getting crowned was priceless. It brought happy tears to my face to see her so happy at that very moment. There is just not enough words to express the feeling I felt seeing her with a crown on her head, flowers in her hand, and that million dollar smile on her face. It is an overwhelming feeling seeing her crowned Homecoming Queen, she is a wonderful person, with a big Alejandro heart. If one person deserved to be queen, it was her. I am very proud of her,” Estella Alejandro, Aniseto’s mom, said.
