Dear Fellow Students
It’s been a long yet relaxing summer. However, it’s time to crack open the books and set those alarm clocks! School has begun and it’s going to be yet another successful year!
The Pirateer staff writers have been scrambling to get you the latest news and updates during the summer! There’s a movie review on one of the most popular musicals to hit the big screen, Hairspray! For our music fans, check out our review on the hottest and loudest concerts of the summer! Take me out to the ball game…this was no ordinary game! One of our very own staff writers attended a game that will make its mark in soccer’s history! Don’t forget to read our monthly School Line Sports!
Summer brought new experiences for many of us. I myself spent a week in SUNY Brockport with 360 girls from all across New York. Can you imagine that in just one week, we created a fictional state government? The program, Empire Girls State, taught me how our state government functions and that there’s more to New York than New York City! The following week, I spent a week at Cornell University with 50 of my peers from all across the country! Learning economics, we also put our leadership skills to the test. These two seminars were eye-opening experiences that have guaranteed me not only a wealth of knowledge but many long-lasting friendships.
One of the staff writers took a trip to sunny California and had her experience of a lifetime. For the first time, she took a trip on the waves and surfed! Read about what she thought about it!
Fall brings school but also new TV shows! Tune in to the shows that may soon rank under your favorites, including the anticipated Gossip Girl.
It is my pleasure to welcome all the incoming freshmen that have become part of the Tottenville family! To help you get started on the right track, be sure to read The Freshman’s Handbook To THS, a list of FAQ’s that you might never have even thought of! There are also articles on what exactly SO and SING are. You might want to check those out!
Do you remember those summer reading books? Read what our writers thought of them!
That’s it for September! Good luck and happy reading!
