Reflecting on Dr. King’s legacy and understanding the meaning of his principles of non-violence and his political views, I have come to realize that Dr. King was not only a man who spoke of peace and equality, but also of democracy.

Dr. King changed the lives and minds of many Americans by using his powerful words and planting the seed for justice and equality for all. To me, the thing that makes Dr. King an historical figure is his never-ending fight for justice and equality for all generations, no matter what race, sex, creed, or political background.

Dr. King continued to speak of non-violence, which spread far and wide and also helped to make segregation a federal crime.

Dr. King's legacy will continue, and his words will never be forgotten. Many people ask "What would Dr. King be doing now if he were alive today?"

I believe that Dr. King would be speaking on the war on Iraq and Saddam Hussein's capture. I also believe that Dr. King would be proud, but also disgusted by the way our world has turned out.

He would make comments in disagreement about the war on Iraq and President Bush's ideas. He would also make comments on 9-11 and the mere idea of terrorism.

As an American, I am almost ashamed of being an American. Dr. King's legacy has been forgotten by some in our world. We are quick to lash out at others and have become an increasingly violent country.

In spite of this struggle, Dr. King’s legacy hasn't been forgotten in the hearts of millions of Americans who still today continue to face racism and inequality.
