When asked about the biggest problem at Northwestern High School, many students say the bathrooms. Most bathrooms have no tissue, soap, or stall doors, and they can be very unfriendly places to use.
Dr. Scofield is currently working on fixing this problem in the school. Meetings were held to discuss bathroom problems and solutions on January 13 and January 15, 2004.
Whose bathroom is the worse? Talking to students, many say it would be the girls. The boys’ bathrooms only have the missing essentials and a foul smell, where as the girls bathroom is unbelievable.
The girls bathrooms have no tissue, trash cans, or mirrors. Because there is no tissue, many girls refuse to use the bathroom. Trash cans are needed to place sanitary napkins in, instead of what ends up happening, which is girls leaving them on the floors.
Boys’ bathrooms just smell like urine all over the place and all bathrooms need stalls to add some privacy.
When asked what he thinks about the school bathrooms, Derrick Mondowney said "I just wait until I get home to use the bathroom.”
Another student agreed. " The only time I will use the bathrooms at school is if I have to go real bad," said junior Latoya Gant.
When students hold their bladder all day because they don't want to use the unsanitary bathrooms this can become a medical issue.
Most people cite destructive students in explaining the condition of the bathrooms. Teachers talk about how students have set trash cans and tissue on fire in the bathrooms when those items were placed there.
As always, it is not every student contributing to the destruction of the lavoratory, but it is every student that suffers. The school has also had a hard time keeping up with the cleaning of the bathrooms since several custodians we laid off last month.
The bathrooms need serious attention because everyone has to use them, but many students are afriad to do so.
Students in the Law Academy have been studying the problems and have suggested changes to Dr. Scofie.ld.
