The student dress code at York High School says that students are supposed to dress appropriately for school. The student dress and appearance is supposed to be neat, clean, and non-disruptive to the educational process. Clothing that is too tight, too short, or too suggestive is not allowed. Head coverings of any type are not permitted. Clothing which promotes drugs or alcohol is also not allowed.

Anyone who defies these dress codes faces disciplinary action. Teachers however, do not always notice defiances of the dress code. “I always wear a hat in the building, but never get in trouble,” says a York High freshman.

According to Ron Payne, vice principal at York High, there is not much of a problem with the dress code. When asked which dress code is broken the most, Mr. Payne replies, “We don’t have a big problem with dress codes much, but the rules that are broken the most is obscene language on t-shirts and midriff showing.” Payne says that he does not show any leniency enforcing the dress code. Violators will be punished.
