Tank Welcomes New Members Tuesday, January 17, 2012 By Senior Breana Stodden [ArticleImageHyperLink] Advertising The first few weeks back from break are hectic at Cameron High. Students are trying to get back in the swing of things, teachers making lesson plans for the semester, and the guidance office dealing with schedule changes. The schedule changes, however, are a great advantage to some classes. The Tank Staff lost reporters at semester due to schedule conflicts, but the staff was able to gain four new reporters this semester. The new members include: Senior Faith Roberts (taking an independent study block), Junior Pashantz Howell, Sophomore Tina Barnes, and Sophomore Brennon Hargrave . “Sydnie really needed people for her team and Mr. Williams kept begging me to join. I also saw the article The Tank wrote about needing more people and thought, sign me up!” said Pashantz. She is glad she joined, but is worried about what people think after they read her article. “I’m nervous about writing something and it going in the paper,” added Pashantz. Although the new staff members may be nervous, Tank Advisor Mr. Derek Williams has faith in them. “I’m excited to have a full staff. I have people in here who want to write, like writing, and who are kind of excited about the writing, so I’m excited about that. I think we will actually improve the publication overall,” said Mr. Williams. There are students this semester with independent study blocks who have had experience in this class before, so that is also an advantage to the Tank Staff this semester. Even with non-experienced writers, The Tank will still be high quality with the same expectation for everyone, including the new members. Tina said, “I like being in newspaper; it is exactly what I figured it would be. It’s a lot of fun, but it isn't an easy-A class.” These new reporters are giving it their all and are looking forward to the upcoming semester. Each of the new members plan to stay in newspaper throughout high school. They are all glad they joined and have enjoyed it so far. Brennon has really enjoyed the class and the other staff members. “The people are all really nice and Mr. Williams is probably one of my favorite teachers, so it’s been pretty fun so far,” he said. The Tank Staff has welcomed all the new members and hopes to recruit even more in the future. The staff wishes all the new reporters good luck in their upcoming articles.
