Ever wonder what it’s like to be the “principals kid?” Senior Chelsea Gerber and Sophomore Brittney Gerber could tell you; they experience it daily at Cameron High. They see him in the halls, hear him on the intercom, and any time they visit the office.

And yet, both girls seem to like having their dad in the school.

Brittney said, “I actually really like it compared to what people think. It’s actually not too bad.” Having her dad in the school helps her stay out of trouble and keeps her grades up. She does well in academics, as well as sports. She is active in extracurricular activities, and helps out when needed.

Older sister, Chelsea, likes having her dad in the school as well. Chelsea said, “I like having my dad in the school because if I forget something or forget to get something signed, my dad is here and he can get it for me.” Chelsea believes her dad has higher expectations of Brittney and her over other students. Chelsea said, “If I was to get in trouble at school, it would be like twenty million times worse than a regular punishment, because it’s my dad. I would get in trouble here, but at home as well.”

Most students think the girls receive special treatment, but they don’t. Mr. Gerber tells the teachers not to give the girls special treatment. After all, they are regular students too. They come to school, stay involved, make good grades, do their work, and then it starts all over again the next day.

Mr. Gerber said, “ I want to treat everyone the same. I don't want my daughters to stick out anymore than anyone else.” Mr.Gerber is normally busy, and doesn’t notice them a whole lot. He said, “Occasionally I look in and watch over them, but that is about it.”

Although, It may be difficult and awkward at times,  the daughters manage to overcome being the principal’s kid. Their dad has high expectations of them, whether he’s the principal or not.
