Cameron High School Seniors are busy with more than school--some have jobs working for money to save for college and some are busy with extra-curricular activities. Senior year is not all about fun and games. It is when the hard working Seniors have to worry about college and what they want to be and who they are going to grow up and be. The have more to worry about then just getting out of high school and it being their last year.

College today has made it worth a persons time to follow through with the entire high school career until the very end. Scholarships absolutely help students pay for the tuition. The scholarship is a check that is given to the person that has applied it to a specific school and it will only be accepted to the university that a person applied for.

CHS’s Guidance Office offers a great amount of help. “We make all scholarships that we are aware of available to students on the Guidance Office webpage.  Any student that needs help filling out an application is welcome to come and see their counselor for help.  Most applications are accessible on-line, so students can work on them whenever it is convenient for them.  They are encouraged to come in and see us, or even e-mail us with questions, if they need any help,” said Guidance Counselor Ms. Jennifer Grossman.

Stress fills Seniors heads in CHS due to the combination of school, work, college scholarships, and all the extra-curricular activities. “Keeping up with all of my Senior activities is very stressful and hard work. It keeps me busy and does not give me much time to slack off. I currently work at Ma and Pa’s Kettle, take five college classes at the High School, and I’m also involved in Band, Pep Band, FFA, Interact Club, and FLC. It is a lot of hard work, but it will pay off for me by the time I graduate,” said Senior Erin Christopher.

Alumni, seniors, and parents understand this stress that the current students are under. “My daughter did not work in high school except babysitting once in a while. Her job was to focus on school and get good grades, but yes she stressed a little about a couple of classes. Getting help filling out scholarships was probably the most stressful thing she had to do. Always pay attention to dead lines, and make sure you get them in at least a week before they are due,” said Debra Pelton.

CHS Seniors have a lot of work to do. Seniors, make it as fun as possible for their last year here at the High School while preparing yourselves for the journeys and goals you have set along the road. Public two-year colleges charge, on average, $2,713 per year in tuition plus other fees. Private nonprofit four-year colleges charge, on average, $27,293 per year in tuition and fees. You still have a long road to travel, so keep your noses to the grindstone and keep at it!
