Hearts racing, nerves kicking in, anxiety builds as everyone waits. This is how FFA members felt who were trying out for an area II officer position on March 9 at Gallatin. With four judges in the room and 16 FFA members who interviewed for a spot, only ten received an office. Junior Kayla Groebe was one of the relieved members who made it. She is the CHS FFA Secretary and will be taking on the responsibilities as the Area II FFA Reporter next year.

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time--since I was a freshman,” said Kayla. “I wasn't really nervous until I went into the room to be interviewed, then I was anxious to see if I received an office or not. There were a lot of good people there who really qualified. I think overall everyone did pretty well.”

The FFA members who watched the interviewees agreed. There were 20 delegates (FFA members chosen by the advisers) who had the opportunity to sit in on the interviews and listen. The delegate representing Cameron was Freshman Brandon Simmons. Brandon said, “The experience was pretty cool. Sitting there listening to everybody say their thoughts over all the questions was an awesome opportunity. I think for the most part everyone did good. Kayla did amazing, she answered the questions really well and thoroughly.”

Finally, when the anticipation was over, Kayla told her advisers (Mrs. Buller and Mr. Alden) she had made the team. FFA Advisor Mrs. Carmen Buller said, “I figured Kayla would receive an office, because she is the caliber of student we would like to represent our area association. She possesses the leadership quality of members in our area and from our chapter that we would like to see represent us. It wasn't a surprise to hear when she received an office, but I was very excited for her when I heard she had received one. It is a great opportunity to serve the Area Association and represent our chapter at that level.” Being an area officer takes leadership skills, social skills, responsibility, honesty, motivation, and more.

“I think Kayla will do an incredible job as the reporter. The position requires her to create slide shows, work with the other officers, and prepare different activities for the area. I think she will do an excellent job presenting her part during open and closing ceremonies, and will be an excellent Area II Officer,” said Mrs. Buller.

Kayla is excited and prepared to be an area officer, but is also nervous. Everyone who received an office is nervous, but looking forward to this upcoming year. The new officer team can’t wait to see the new experiences and challenges it holds for them. Kayla and the other officers said they are looking forward to meeting a lot of new people from Area II and developing their leadership skills. “I'm am very excited and can’t wait to serve as the FFA Area II Reporter this upcoming year,” said Kayla Groebe.
