Local Scholarship Offers - New Online Form
Advertising
Most adults looks back on high school as one of the best times of their lives. However, you will be hard-pressed to find a Cameron High School senior who agrees if you ask them during “scholarship season”. On top of college applications, and scholarship applications from those colleges, the community of Cameron offers local scholarships to seniors in the community. And while most application processes are thought to be tedious, nerve-wracking, and/or mentally taxing, fear not, students of CHS. A new addition to the local scholarship application process might make the whole thing a little more bearable.

This year, Language Arts Teacher Mr. Derek Williams created an online application form. He hopes to make the entire process easier for students applying and the people or businesses offering the scholarships. “For the last several years, we talked about how it would be nice if the kids could do it online so I have been a proponent of having it, and the guidance office has been open to it. We just didn’t know how to set it up or how to do it. Finally this year I figured it out, how to structure it in a way that we know we’ll get the form, and it’ll just make it easier for everyone involved.”

Guidance Counselor Mr. Edd Green is hoping for an easier process as well. “Students do so much online now that I believe a paper/pencil version would just not be as successful. With the local common form, the students can concentrate on just one online form and apply for up to 50 awards,” said Mr. Green. This, compared to filling out applications for every scholarship that is applicable to a student, seems much easier.

Senior Erin Smith is a fan of the process because of the idiot-proofing it offers. “It makes applying easier, because you can work on it any time you are around a computer, and if you mess up, you can easily start over,” said Erin.

So to all the seniors in Cameron who are stressing out over college applications, working out what dorms to stay in, and maybe suffering from a case of senioritis, hopefully this new application process will lighten some of your load.To apply check out the guidance office website and remember, all local applications are due March 18. Good luck to you all.
