Most students don't enjoy finals. Finals are stressful, hard, and they affect your overall grade if you don’t study. Who wouldn’t want to get out of taking them? Luckily for some students, that’s exactly what they get to do. Job shadowing has been offered as an alternative - with stipulations, of course. Students with good grades, behaviors, and attendance get out of school on December 20-21 to job shadow in a field they might be interested in.

Job shadowing gives students a chance to observe professionals in the work space and try out new job experiences. Freshman Jared Proctor said,  “Job shadowing is a good time to learn what you want to be in real life. I'm job shadowing with my dad because I plan to be a police officer when I grow up. It gave me a good understanding of how police officers spend their day.

The students experience different career paths they would've never thought as an option. Some chose to change the paths they had originally chosen for their future. Junior Chelsea Gerber said,  “Job shadowing is a wonderful opportunity to go work at a place you plan to work in the future. It allows students the chance to experience a different job.

Administrators go around town to check on the students. On Monday, they make sure the students are where they said they would be in town. On Tuesday, they check the places out side of town. The students are required to job shadow a total of 14 hours.

Unfortunately, those ineligible for job shadowing have to take finals, but that just shows how a little hard work pays off. Students can get the opportunity to have fun getting out of school and working in the community, along with gaining knowledge and experience which will benefit them in the future.
