Students at CHS are getting more involved in the bettering of their community. Interact is a new club forming at the high school sponsored by the Cameron Rotary and encourages students to become more active in community service. “Interact is a community service-oriented club and we do lots of good things in and around the community,” said Interact Vice President Alex Smith.

The Interact club will meet once a month and plan out service projects for each month both within the school and in the community. “Interact is a service group for high school students that is associated with the Cameron Rotary,” said CHS Interact sponsor Carmen Buller. “Because this is a service group we decided we would collect five cans of food or five dollars for dues and donate the food and money to the local food pantry,” said Mrs. Buller.

In the past Interact has participated in various services such as Adopt a Highway, Salvation Army bell ringing, Shoes for Orphans Souls and Adopt a Family. Several other local schools such as Kearney and Park Hill High School are also in the process of forming an Interact club.

“Interact is not only a local but international organization; about two hundred countries have a rotary and most rotary clubs offer an Interact program for the youth,” said Past President Donna Acklin. “We started the Interact club as a way getting students involved because we truly believe in what we do in Rotary. We will be there to support them in any way possible,” added Mrs. Acklin.

The Rotary is very interested in the involvement of the students. The Rotary is also interested in giving scholarships to students that are interested in serving in the community. The Cameron Rotary is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages that wish to serve in the community. ”We have a very large variety of people of all ages and professional fields,” said Mrs.Acklin. Many of the exchange programs that take place through the Rotary involve students involved in Rotary.

Interact’s first project will be passing out coloring books to the first graders at Parkview Elementary some time this fall. The coloring books are filled with messages that tell students about truth and fairness as well as other moral messages
