The time has come once again for pumpkins, candy corn, and... Christians? Yes, Christians. It’s nearly time for the students involved in Christian Students United (CSU) to venture out into the streets and trick-or-treat for a worthy cause. This tradition began three years ago under the presidency of Alum Caleb Cole, and has since become one of the most important activities CSU does.

CSU President Zane Clark explained, “Every year we go out door to door dressed in our Halloween costumes and go around asking for non-perishable or canned food items from members around the community to donate to the food pantry. It helps get CSU active in the community and it helps us help others in our own communities.”

In the past the members of CSU have been able to donate much needed food items and clothing to various charitable organizations in the surrounding community. This year, however, it will not just be CSU. They’re teaming up with FFA.

“FFA wants to get involved more in helping other organizations out to get involved in the community. So we’re going to join CSU trick-or-treating to help them out. It’s a great opportunity to get to help out, and I think with more people we’ll have a bigger turn out and it will be more beneficial to the community,” FFA Reporter Breana Stodden said. “We knew CSU did it and so we asked them about it to see if they needed any help getting the food just to expand the impact that it has on the organizations that we donate to.”

FFA Sponsor Carmen Buller agreed, “We have to opportunity to trick-or- treat for food with the Missouri Beef Industry Council. They’re providing us with fliers that have facts about Missouri and how many people suffer from hunger. So we decided that maybe it would be a good chance for us to not only support them and their efforts to get this going, but we also usually do a food drive. This was kind of an easy one for us to pick, and we didn’t want to interfere with what CSU already does, so we decided maybe we could just join forces and cover more areas. This way we can cover more of Cameron, and obviously the ultimate goal is to get as much food as we can so we can give it to the food pantry. It gives our students a chance to see how they can help serve the community in different ways, so the students are gaining just as much probably from this experience as the community is.”

This year, the two organizations will be out and about on October 30, after 5:00 in the evening, dressed to the nines in their costumes. Make sure if you hear a knock on your door you come out and support the kids in their honorable Halloween endeavors!
