The last months of school for seniors at Cameron High School can be excruciating. The clock ticks ever so slowly as minutes become hours, hours become days, and days become years. For seniors planning to go to college to study in their choice field, many are hoping for some financial help in the form of scholarships. With the economy in its current state every penny is vital. But in Cameron there are many opportunities for scholarships.

CHS Guidance Counsellor Ms. Jenniffer Grossman explained. She said, "This year, over 100 local scholarships will be given out. There is no limit to how many a single person can receive, and the scholarships are given out by local clubs, businesses, churches and organizations. Either they come and hand them out to the winner or they ask the counselors to present on their behalf." All student recipients are very grateful not only for the money towards college, but for simply being recognized.

CHS Guidance Counsellor Mr. Edd Green said, "Local scholarship winners are announced on Class Night, which this year is Friday May 14, 7pm- Goodrich Auditorium.  Many other awards are given that we never hear about or know. Luckily for students one scholarship application qualifies them for consideration for all the local scholarships." No matter what a senior is interested in, there are scholarships for students with all interests.

Mrs. Kathryn Goodwin said, "I personally give two $250 scholarships in memory of my husband usually based on participation in music--usually vocal music students but band students are not left out. I Also give two 100$ scholarships given on senior Sunday at the Methodist church in Cameron in memory of my son Robert Malcolm Goodwin." Mrs. Goodwin is a very helpful person for students at CHS who are wanting to study music after high school, but she's just one of many who recognizes students' hard work.

Some businesses recognize those students who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and achieved excellence in their academic career. Others are there to lend a helping hand to students who are either less fortunate, or their circumstances otherwise keep them from excelling in school. Scholarships are an intricate part of a seniors' high school career and can help them afford a post secondary education they never imagined they would have. It goes to show how people of Cameron, no matter how divided on certain issues, will come together to help the youth of the town go on to greater and grander things.
