School involves a lot of work, focus, and concentration. Most students achieve these goals, but some students struggle a little bit more than others.  The reason being because some students have part-time jobs outside of school.

Not all the students have jobs though. Some can't find jobs because of the local market being over-employed.  Junior Jonathon Brockman is one of the many students who don't have a job, but still has an interesting view on students who have jobs in school. "I think students having a job in school teaches them responsibility by teaching them how to manage their working time and their homework time," says Jonathon. While having no job, he is in pursuit of one for Ag Placement, a class involving having a job here at CHS.

While quite a few students at CHS don't have jobs, there are a huge portion of the school society who do have jobs.  Junior Jacob Northrup shares his part in this portion and points out current jobs teach students about the plan for future jobs. Jacob has had a job at the local Wendy's for the last two years. "My job at Wendy's is okay, but I definitely don't want to do it for the rest of my life," says Jacob. In fact, Jacob wants to go to college and work with computers, and he'd probably be pretty good at considering he built his computer when he was ten years old.
While Jacob's future plans are promising, he's more focused on the present. While having a job's results can be fruitful, they can take a lot of time out of your schedule.  Jacob mentioned he sometimes had to finish homework in class because the nights he has homework sometimes he has to work. Even though this minor setback, Jacob claimed he was staying at Wendy's until college because he probably couldn't find a job much better right now.

Jacob doesn't necessarily like his job, but at the same time doesn't hate it.  Some people actually take pride in their work, like Junior Dominic Brazeel takes in his job. In fact, Dominic works at the World's of Fun theme park in Kansas City. This is Dominic's second year at World's Of Fun, and since Dominic usually works in the summer he doesn't really have the hassle of homework and work. It still has some disadvantages though. "Last summer when I worked I wasn't home a whole lot which deprived me of a lot of personal time with family and friends," says Dominic. While work has its downers, it has perks as well. "Working and going to school teaches students how to save money and how to spend it also," says Dominic.

Dominic hasn't always had jobs he liked though.  He stated he regretfully worked 2 months at a local restaurant.  He quit not long after starting due to issues with the managers who worked there.  Dominic loves the job he has now though and plans to work until college as well. He plans to get a part-time job while studying to be a lawyer.

Students who have jobs in school learn about what life after school will be like and the responsibilities of adulthood, so keep on working CHS students.
