The yearly School Board Elections were held the week of April 6 to bring two new members on to the school board. Three candidates ran for two open seats on the committee. Glenn Chase, Ann Clark, and Michelle Petersen were the three candidates. Out of these three, Ann Clark and Michelle Pertersen came out on top. This is Mrs. Petersen's second term on the board after finishing Darwin Copeman's vacated seat . Mrs. Ann Clark took over Mr. Gary Summers' position as he stepped off the board.

Elections in Clinton county were held at the Cameron Police Station. "The elections are held every year in April, always on the first Tuesday in April," said Board Secretary Mrs. Karen Feighart. "The School Board is a group of individuals that are chosen who approve policies, determine salaries, and decide who will work at what school doing a certain job," added Mrs. Clark. There is no application process, but candidates have a certain time frame to fill out paperwork, which is from mid-December and ending January 19 every year. You have to be at least 24 and reside in the state of Missouri for one year before elections and you have to be a taxpayer of the Cameron School district.

"There is a small price involved with being a School Board member," said Board Member Mrs. Michelle Petersen. "Time as well as money is spent on advertising and election signs," Mrs. Petersen added. Each member serves a three year term and must go through 16 hours of Board Member Training through the Missouri School Boards Association, but they receive one year to complete the training.

The new members have already begun working on finances and funding with the other board members for the schools. "Our school is probably in better shape than most right now," said Mrs. Clark. A few other issues that have been brought up were, improvements with the technological infrastructure throughout the district and building improvements.

"I would like to improve transparency; better communication is needed between the board, the staff, and the community," said Mrs. Petersen. "I would like to see more open communication between the district employees and the board members. I feel that this will help us improve the district and the services that we provide. I would also like to see money put towards safely maintaining the current technology that we have. We may not have money to purchase new technology for the classrooms, but we need to preserve what we do have."
